Essence is a characteristic step in Korean skincare. It usually has a light, watery, or slightly gel-like consistency and helps prepare the skin to absorb subsequent cosmetics. It is applied after cleansing and toning, and before serum, ampoule, and cream.
How does essence differ from toner and serum? Toner is the first light step applied after cleansing. Essence provides the skin with additional hydration and nourishing ingredients, while a serum or ampoule typically has a more concentrated formula targeting a specific skin need. In a simple routine, a well-chosen essence can also replace a serum.
In the Aura3AM collection, you will find Korean essences containing, among others, PDRN, beta-glucan, glutathione, as well as soothing and moisturizing ingredients. More intensive Reedle Shot formulas are also available, which should be introduced gradually and used according to the manufacturer's instructions.
How to choose the right essence? For dry and dehydrated skin, choose an intensely moisturizing formula with beta-glucan. If you desire a radiant appearance and a more even skin tone, opt for an essence with glutathione. Skin requiring elasticity care may benefit from formulas containing PDRN.
Apply a small amount of essence to clean, toned facial skin and gently pat with your hands. Do not rub the skin. Then apply serum or cream. Light essences can be applied in several thin layers if the skin needs additional hydration.
